Need to read - 'The Sellout', Paul Beatty's Biting Satire

Review: ‘The Sellout,’ Paul Beatty’s Biting Satire on Race in America - NYTimes.com

Just finished reading the review from the New York Times books on Mr Beatty's new novel, and I must say, I NEED to read this...

Just searched Amazon and there's no Kindle version of this book. Bummer! Not that it is not worthwhile getting the hardcover, it's just that now I need to go and find a local book store to buy it from. Face the over inflated, over taxed pricing on that book. Since Americans brought 'democracy' to South Africa, the right of the masses to bleat and loaf about is far more important that delivering value and productivity to the community/economy.

So, simply ordering the book from Amazon and having it delivered to my door via out postal service, is no longer an option, since their right to strike outweighs my right to expect the service that they exist to provide. I'm now only getting my mail from last year, from the last time they went on strike.

Can't wait to see what the new strike season has on the cards for us when they go on strike again to cover the inflated demands on wages they make. Minister Nene, already, in a very optimistic move, announced in his budget speech that government increases will be limited to 7%.  That worked so well for them last year. This year the school year had not started properly yet, when the teachers union already demanded double digit increases.

This is the first time I've seen a manta ray breaching. Nature channels are full of whales, dolphins and sharks, to name just a few, but never the devil fish!

Suicide

Suicide Shocking! Misunderstood. Illness. Deviation. Problem. Many words describe what first flows through your mind when you hear the word. In this week I had been confronted with the reality of it, or rather and attempt at it. A family member of a colleague had been under treatment for bi-polar disorder and had taken an overdose of her medication. Luckily the attempt was just that and the quick actions of people in this persons life saved it. I remember going ice cold. Like a part of the arctic was pushed into my core. Several years ago, I had suffered from severe depression. To the point where taking my own life was not something to be feared, but sought. Anything to just feel again. It is hard to describe to anyone the feeling of not feeling. It’s much the same as explaining the concept of a world where God is not present to someone that devoutly believes. You just cannot fathom the depth of despair when you cannot feel joy again. Everyone is used to these emotions in their live...
